F1's Susie Wolff loses appeal on driving ban
Former Formula 1 driver Susie Wolff failed in an attempt to get a driving ban for reversed speeding.
The 34-year-old, now working as Mercedes ambassador, told a judge at Oxford Crown Court that losing her license was "very embarrassing" and would affect her charity work.
She was recorded making 35mph in an area of 30mph in June 2015 in the village of East Hanney, Oxfordshire.
The driver worked for Williams Formula One between 2012 and 2015.
"Not a race girl"
Wolff, who lives in Oxford, already had nine points on her license for two previous speed offenses when she was banned for six months by magistrates in November.
The ban was suspended until Friday's appeal hearing.
Ms. Wolff told the court: "I'm not a girl runner, I'm saving my speed for the race track."
She asked that the ban be lifted because she would have a "massive impact" on her charity work encouraging girls to take part in motor sport.
She said, "It is an extremely embarrassing situation to find myself, I am a professional driver and being caught in speeding and having my driver's license taken for speeding, it would have an effect on my reputation.
Mrs. Wolff added that she is a "model" for the hundreds of girls in her charity, Dare to be different, aims to help and did not want to let them down.
She also said she would not be able to fully participate in the events of the charity or do her job promoting Mercedes if she was not able to drive.
Wolff became the first woman to take part in a grand prix weekend for more than 20 years
But recorder Sarah Campbell dismissed her appeal and told her, "This may well be an embarrassment with regard to her position, but it can be a salutary lesson to those aware of the facts.
Mrs Wolff was also fined £ 500 and sentenced to pay £ 345 and a £ 15 surcharge.
Ms Wolff, married to the executive director of Mercedes F1 Toto Wolff, joined the F1 team at Channel 4 in 2016.
At the British Grand Prix in 2014, she became the first woman to participate in a grand prix weekend for 22 years, finishing 15 of 22 in a free practice session.
