Porsche releases the sporty 2018 Panamera Sport Turismo Wagon
End of last year, we began to hear chatter that the beautiful Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo - an elegant, wagon-ish variant of the Panamera sedan - could start at the Geneva show and could head to the States. It turns out we were right. This is the 2018 Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo, and it is amazing for several reasons.
To begin with, let's talk about the form factor. It is no secret that crossovers are hot and the cars are appreciated but not bought. Take a look at the actual situation of Giulia wagon Alfa Romeo: they have boxed in favor of the Stelvio, which in all fairness is basically a Giulia wagon with a slight elevator. There is still something magical about an appropriate wagon, however, and the Volvo V90 proves the rule. The same goes for Sport Turismo.
This is a unique design at the back of the B pillars, and therefore it means that the cargo compartment is different than the sedan. The loading edge is lower (24.7 inches) and the maximum total stowage becomes 49 cubic feet compared to 46 feet in the sedan. The hybrid version loses some of the powertrain's additional fixins, reaching 45.7 cubes maximum. For the first time in a Panamera, there is the possibility of a three rear seat through. Well, more than two individual seats plus an occasional place use the middle.
Now on the right things: engines, trim and equipment. There will be four versions of Sport Turismo, but all will be equipped with all-wheel drive. The base car will start at $ 97,250 and will feature a V6 turbo with 330 horsepower. The next step is the E-Hybrid, which rings at $ 105,050 and features a 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6. Together with its electric motor, it will make 462 bhp in total. The S model costs $ 110,250 and makes 440 hp from a 2.9-liter double turbo V6, while the high-end Turbo uses a twin-turbo V8 with 550 hp and 4.0 liters and starts at $ 155,050.
Performance seems strong. Porsche claims that the Sport Turismo base will reach 60 miles per hour in 5 seconds. The 4S will do the act a second faster, while the hybrid will between 4.4 seconds. The Turbo is obviously the fastest of all, reaching 60 mph in 3.4 seconds.
There are some evening stuff, too. On the one hand, there is an extensible rear spoiler that comes out of the roof. Its three deployment stages provide up to 110 pounds of downforce to the rear axle. At its rest position, in normal mode, the spoiler remains at a negative angle of 7 degrees for better aerodynamic efficiency, but deploys at 105 mph plus 1 degree. In Sport and Sport Plus, it unfolds at only 56 mph. And if you open the panoramic roof open above 56 mph, the wing moves to a position plus 26 degrees to minimize wind noise. Cared for!
If you want one, you can order one now but will have to wait until the end of 2017 for delivery.
